Andrea Mugler, MA., Ed.S.
For nearly two decades, I’ve worked as a school psychologist, guiding families and school teams though the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and 504 process. As an integral member of the IEP team, I have conducted hundreds of school-based psychological evaluations, using both curriculum-based assessment and observational data as well as standardized assessment tools and behavioral rating scales. I have extensive knowledge and experience interpreting evaluation data and using that data to make decisions regarding student needs, eligibility and goals. I have earned an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology and a Master's Degree in School Administration.
As a school-based practitioner, one of my top priorities has always been to ensure that parents and guardians fully understand and actively participate in their child’s educational journey. The IEP and 504 processes, along with their overarching laws, are crucial for providing the necessary support for every child in school. However, these processes can often be complex and overwhelming for families.
It wasn't until I experienced the process from the perspective of a parent needing support for my own child that I truly understood how intricate and emotionally taxing it can be. Navigating Special Education and 504 meetings involves conversations that are not only vital with legal complexity, but also deeply personal. Whether requesting initial intervention help, entering into an evaluation for services, or attending annual and tri-annual meetings, these discussions about your child can feel daunting.
My "why" stems from a desire to help parents feel less overwhelmed by the process. I aim to empower them to actively engage in these crucial meetings with a sense of understanding and partnership with the school. By demystifying the procedures, providing practical solutions for meeting preparation, and fostering collaboration, I strive to ensure that every parent can confidently advocate for their child’s educational needs.
